Setting Your RVing Goals for the New Year

Set Your RVing Goals for the New Year

With the excitement of a fresh start just around the corner, it’s time to set your RVing goals for the New Year. Whether you’re a seasoned RV enthusiast or a newbie, clear goals can help you make the most of your RVing experiences. In this post, we’ll explore four key areas to focus on: realistic goal-setting, trip planning, RV upgrades, and skill development. Ready to hit the road with purpose? Let’s explore how to set ambitious yet achievable RVing goals for an unforgettable 2025!

Setting Realistic Goals

Just like aiming for the moon, set ambitious RVing goals. Even if you don’t achieve every single one, you’ll still have incredible experiences along the way. One of my favorite sayings is something my high school Ag teacher told me, “Hayley, set your goals for the moon. If you fail, you’ll at least land on a star.” That applies to every facet of life.

Setting realistic RVing goals can help you plan unforgettable trips, improve your RVing skills, and create lasting memories. If your big goal is to visit all 50 states in your RV, start with smaller, achievable goals like planning a trip to a neighboring state, mastering boondocking, or upgrading your RV with a solar panel.

Don’t forget to consider the ‘why’ behind your goals. What experiences do you hope to have? What memories do you want to create? Connecting your goals to your deeper motivations will make them more meaningful and easier to achieve.

Planning Your RV Trips

Setting realistic RVing goals can help you plan unforgettable trips. This picture shows a blurred map with pin tacks to indicate locations along the map.

Imagine yourself cruising down the highway in your RV, the open road stretching before you. To ensure your journey is as smooth and enjoyable as possible, proper planning is key.

Where do you want to travel? Set some goals to visit Yosemite, Gettysburg, the sandy beaches of Pensacola, or off-the-beaten path areas. Whether your traveling for pleasure or for work, take some time to enjoy some sites along the way.

Research your destinations. When visiting popular locations, remember it may be helpful to make reservations in advance. Consider seasonal situations and weather forecasts for each destination. Perhaps you don’t want to see the South Dakota Badlands in February if you’re more of a warm climate type of person.

In August, our favorite small town in Montana has a parade. This is an event kids love as they walk away with bags of candy. Be sure to check into local events that may occur during your trip. If you want to avoid crowds, you may not want to be in that area during a large festival. Consider these situations while planning.

Budgeting for trips is imperative, especially if you’re traveling as a family. Create a budget and track travel expenses. Set daily spending limits and keep to them. Don’t forget to factor in unexpected costs like repairs, emergency expenses, and souvenirs.

If affordability is a concern, try Boondocking to save on fees. State parks often have more economical sites compared to fancy RV resorts.

Take advantage of technology! Use RV trip planner apps like RV Trip Wizard or Roadtrippers to plan your route, find campgrounds, and discover points of interest along the way.

My family and I are more laid back in our traveling approach. We have a rough itinerary, but really take each day one at a time. If we want to stop and put our feet in a river, we do. It’s enjoyable to embrace these small moments. Creating an itinerary can help you stay on budget, but don’t forget to embrace the moments that build life-long memories.

Upgrading Your RV

One of the best ways to enhance your RVing experience is by making upgrades that improve comfort, efficiency, and functionality. RV Skirting is a great product to help improve all of those goals!

Start by identifying your biggest pain points. What are your biggest challenges when RVing? What would make your RVing experiences more enjoyable?

Upgrade your tires and brakes to ensure your RV is safe to tow. Install a better mattress to get a better night’s sleep. Add storage solutions to maximize space and keep things more organized. Perhaps you’re ready to add solar panels to your unit. Maybe changing out light bulbs would make the RV more comfortable. Adding a bike rack may make the trips more enjoyable for the family. Here are just a few upgrades to consider for your RV.

Focus on essential upgrades first. I’d want to make sure my family had safe water and a great heat source in our RV before I focused on cosmetic features. Perhaps installing a water filtration system, or adding a generator to your setup is more important than making your RV Pinterest-worthy.

Don’t hesitate to ask for help from a certified RV technician if something is beyond your skill set. There are many DIY options, but sometimes it’s best to leave the more complex tasks to the professionals.

By making thoughtful upgrades, you can transform your RV into a more comfortable, efficient, and enjoyable home on wheels.

Learning RV Skills for the New Year

The new year is the perfect time to set new goals and expand your RVing knowledge and skills. As an RV owner, this could mean that you would like to learn more about troubleshooting common RV issues, boondocking, or solar panels to equip your unit with alternative energy sources.

YouTube offers millions of videos to specifically address helping each of us learn new skills. Subscribe to some of the channels that suit your needs. There are also forums designed for RV owners specifically focused on the make of your unit. In addition, there are multiple Facebook groups for people who are RV living that you can ask questions in and learn from.

Furthermore, in person classes are a valuable resource to learn more about different topics and skills. There are RV Technician classes in Elkhart, Indiana and throughout other places in the United States. RV Rallies offer great opportunities to learn directly from the manufacturers, in many cases. Some of these classes offer a wide array of topics to learn about, while other educational events focus on a primary topic, like solar options, and dive deep into all the information and installation procedures.

What do you want to learn about? Research it and don’t be afraid to step out of that comfort zone to learn what you want.

Set ambitious yet achievable RVing goals for the new year and watch your adventures unfold. Plan unforgettable trips, improve your RVing skills, and create lasting memories. Start planning now!
