My RV is Skirted: Now What?

I did the research. We read the reviews. Winter is fast approaching and I am getting anxious. We want to make sure we are protected and ready for the cold weather in our RV. My RV is skirted, now what?

How Do I Stay Warm in My RV This Winter?

One of the most crucial aspects of keeping your RV warm during the winter is insulation. A well-insulated RV will retain heat more effectively, reducing the strain on your heating system and lowering your energy costs. Here are some key considerations:

Skirt Insulation: Make sure that the space under your RV is adequately insulated. We suggest utilizing our R-7 Insulated Skirting.

“Best investment we have made living fulltime. We are so thankful for the quality craftsmanship and installation. It is also super easy to remove and reinstall!” -Peggy P.

Wall, Floor, and Ceiling Insulation: Check the insulation in these areas. Slideouts generally have notoriously thin walls. As a result, Slideout Wraps are invaluable in this situation. Coupled with that, we suggest applying Reflectix in the back of the cabinets, over windows, and across ceiling vents.

Window and Door Sealing: Seal any gaps or cracks around windows and doors to prevent cold air from entering. Since we had bad gaps around our door frame, we actually had snow come inside the RV through the crack. Draft Stoppers were great where the door met the floor. Heating System Maintenance

In addition, a properly functioning heating system is essential for staying warm. Here are some tips:

Regular Maintenance: Schedule regular maintenance checks for your heating system to ensure it’s operating efficiently. If you need assistance search for a local RV Technician. We even chose to keep spare parts on hand.

Fuel Supply: Make sure you have an adequate supply of fuel (propane, diesel, or electricity) for the heating systems. Top off the generator’s fuel tank regularly. We fill and store several propane tanks for emergency use.

Ventilation: Proper ventilation is crucial for safe and efficient heating. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines. Above all, when operating the generator, open the skirting panels so the fumes do not enter the RV. Additionally, this helps prevent the skirting from getting singed by the heat.

Additional Tips for Staying Cozy

Furthermore, there are many options available to help you stay cozy wherever the roads takes you. Let’s review some additional ideas.

Space Heaters: Consider using space heaters for supplemental heating in specific areas of your RV. However, use them safely and follow manufacturer’s instructions. We recommend the Yellow Jacket Space Heaters as a go-to option.

Layers: Certainly dress in layers to stay warm. This allows you to adjust your clothing based on the temperature. If given the chance, I would choose wool fabrics.

Insulated Blankets and Bedding: Invest in high-quality insulated blankets and bedding to keep you cozy. We like heated blankets as well.

There are many ways to stay cozy in your RV. Don't let winter stress you out!

Curtains and Blinds: Close curtains and blinds at night to help retain heat as much as possible.

Cook and Bake: Cooking and baking can generate heat, so take advantage of these activities. My family enjoys when I go this route!

Electric Fireplace: Does your RV park include electric in the lot rent? Undeniably, we love the ambiance and warmth of the fireplace.

Dehumidifier: Although this tool does not necessarily raise the temperature inside the RV, it does help tremendously with the condensation that occurs.
